Has anyone else ever wondered why so many of the children’s nursery rhymes are a little off? I mean.. some are sort of morbid when you think about it… Now… before you start checking Urban Legends, or Snopes on me, take a look at what I’m talking about.

The first one that comes to my mind is the traditional Ring Around the Rosy.

Ring around the rosy,

pockets full of posy

ashes, ashes, we all fall down!

I’ve heard various things about it being about the plague and that was determined to be false. Well, actually.. they say the origin is unknown.. So, who’s to say it’s not? It just sounds bad when you actually listen to the words. I think the last line is just sad! Honestly now.. Ashes, Ashes, We all Fall Down… *shudder*

Ok.. the next one, the one that actually made me think of this post. Daddy was singing a song to the girls the other day. The girls LOVE it. They sing along, and clap along. In fact, we sang it just before bed, and the girls kept singing it after we put them to bed. It was cute, but it also got me thinking.

Three little monkeys sitting in a tree,

Teasing Mr. Alligator, “Can’t Catch Me!”

Along comes Mr. Alligator, quiet as can be.
SNAP!

Two little monkeys sitting in a tree…

etc. until there are no more monkeys..

Now, I understand the importance of teaching children to count backwards…. but do you HAVE to do it with an alligator eating monkeys? LOL Of course, daddy says it’s all about Natural Selection, but the mommy in me thinks it’s just mean!!!

Remember the Ten Little Monkeys jumping on the bed? One fell off and broke his head? YIKES! I know there are so many more out there. It’s just been so long since I’ve heard them.

I know children don’t pay attention to the words and think the same things… To them, it’s a game, and a fun little rhyme. No big deal. I just had to laugh when i heard them yelling “SNAP, no more monkeys in the tree.”

I like to think that my girls are highly advanced for their age. The only problem is that in this state of “advanced-ness” they seem to have hit the terrible two’s and three’s toooooo early! They’re smart! They’re very smart. They know their ABC’s. They know their numbers almost completely up to 20. They know shapes, colors, animals. You name it… they’ve almost got it figured out… They just throw these horrendous tantrums when they don’t get their way! Alexandra loves voicing her anger, and Victoria sure shows it!

It’s frustrating… but.. then i end up just laughing. Alexandra was being so good today, while Victoria was throwing a tantrum. Alexandra looks at me and just says “Sister, bad. Sister cry. Sister not good.” I just started laughing! The fact that she understood that concept, and knew just what to say cracked me up. All I could do was agree… and pray that this phase ends sooner rather than later.

So… the infamous iPhone is getting ready to be released… It’s a beautiful electronic device, an mp3 player, a video player, a digital camera, a phone, and so much more… Daddy and I have been basically drooling over this thing since we heard about it’s impending release back in December of ‘06.

Why am I writing about this phone on my blog that’s supposed to be all about my girls??? Because!! It’s the perfect answer to a “brag book”. Why carry around a huge clunky photo album in your bag.. .when you can keep pictures of your little cuties, and even video in this tiny little device? So it’s just shy of $600.. it’s worth it right? I mean.. i’d have to buy an iPod, a cell phone, a digital camera, and a little photo album all separately to do the same thing this one device does…

Ok.. I get it.. it’s a large expense… but i can still drool and still dream right? Now we’re just waiting for the deal breaker… AT&T is talking about the iPhone having a specific data/voice plan with it… It’s probably going to be through the roof…

My advice… get a plan B!

Well, Daddy and I joined a gym. We actually joined the Gold’s Gym just  a few blocks from the house. It was something we both needed. So far, we’re doing well. I didn’t know exactly how I was going to go.. since Daddy gets up before the sun is even out to go to the gym. It turns out they have a daycare facility in the gym! I’ve been taking the girls there for 3 weeks now, and they’re really starting to love it. It’s been getting tougher and tougher for me to get them out of there! They’ve been so excited to show me what they draw, and what they play with. It’s doing everyone well. They’re actually having fun playing with the other children too. I’m actually enjoying working out now, and I’ve seen results!

It has been my families tradition to visit our family members’ graves over Memorial Weekend. This year was no different.

Daddy, the girls and I met my parents at the East Lawn Cemetery in front of my Great-Grandparents’ graves. We cleaned everything up and made a nice flower bouquet for them. We made sure Great Grandpa had a clean flag (He served in WWI) and then moved on to the next in line, my Great Uncle. We cleaned up, etc.. and went on. When we got to my Grandparents, we made sure Grandpa had a nice flag (He served during the Korean War) and that their head stone was nice and polished. All in all we visited 11 family and friends. The girls were really just interested in looking around, checking out everyone’s flowers, and riding with Grandma and Grandpa. I can’t wait until they’re old enough to really understand the true meaning behind Memorial Day.

This weekend was the 2nd Annual California Capital Air Show at the former Mather Air Force Base… We decided to take the girls on Saturday since they absolutely love airplanes (they are their father’s daughters), and we had a great time! We got there around 1030am, had a great parking space, and went straight in since we bought our tickets on line. Once inside the gate, you had to walk “forever” past all of the food vendors to get to the static airplane displays. There were some really cool planes there! The girls were pointing and shouting “airplane” all day! We got to walk inside one plane. Victoria wasn’t too keen on that. It was dark and crowded, so we understood. It was pretty neat to see all of those planes there. We started getting hungry, so we went back to our car where we kept our lunch. They didn’t allow coolers inside, so we got hand stamps just in case we wanted to go back in. We found a spot not too far from the car, and near the runway where we could see the flying part of the show. It was awesome. We saw everything from a Sukhoi, to a P-51, to an F-18. The highlight though was when a B-2 that flew over! It came and did a few circles down low to see and then flew off. I don’t think the Sunday crowd got that… It was so awesome!

The show went on with some pyrotechnics, and a few more planes. Then the Thunderbirds took off. They did a few maneuvers and then disappeared. We were all wondering what happened, and even saw a large amount of the crowd start to pick up and leave. After around  30 minutes or so, they came back and completed their show. We heard that one of the jets hit a bird and the pilot had to swap out planes. It was a little disappointing, in that we had no idea what was going on.. but the rest of the show ended up pretty good. We were dreading the traffic on the way out (remembered sitting in traffic over an hour last year)… so we ran to the car and loaded everything up as fast as possible to get out of there before everyone had a chance to get out to their cars. We were out of there in less than 10 minutes. It was great.

All in all, it was a lot of fun.. but I will admit.. I hope the Blue Angels come back next year!
